Why choose InkStone

Practical print planning before you commit to a run

Print-on-demand and bulk printing suit different plans. Consider expected demand, upfront spending, storage, shipping, and the need to revise future editions. The appropriate route depends on your project, quantities, and the options offered by your selected print provider.

Choose specifications with the reader in mind

A compact novel, an illustrated children’s title, and a large reference book have different needs.

Compare production routes

Print-on-demand and bulk printing suit different plans.

Prepare the files for the selected printer

Interior and cover files need to match the provider’s specifications.

Frequently asked questions

Good Questions.
Honest Answers.

Everything you'd like to know about book printing. If your question isn't here, we're always happy to talk.

Ask Us a Question
Should I choose print-on-demand or a print run?

The decision depends on demand, quantity, budget, storage, and delivery needs. We can help you compare the options for your project.

Can I print a hardcover edition?

We can discuss hardcover requirements and provider options. Availability and pricing depend on the chosen specification.

Is shipping part of the quote?

Check the written estimate. Printing, shipping, handling, and applicable charges should be identified separately where relevant.

Can I approve the book from a screen alone?

A screen cannot show all physical production details. A printed proof is a useful final check before committing to quantities.

How much does it cost to print a book in the United States?

It depends on page count, paper choice, cover type, and quantity ordered. We give a proper quote once we know your specs, rather than a flat number that does not reflect your actual book.

Can you print a single copy, or do I need a minimum order?

We can help with small runs and single copies for testing or personal use, as well as larger bulk orders for wider distribution.

Do you offer book printing in Chicago, the United States, or only outside the city?

We print for clients across the whole country, including Chicago. Location does not change how we handle your order or the quality of the finish you get back.

What file format do you need for printing?

A print-ready PDF is usually best, but if you are not sure how to prepare one, tell us what software you used and we will guide you through it.

How long does printing usually take from proof approval to delivery?

Turnaround depends on run size and finish, but we will always give you a realistic timeframe before you approve anything, not just a rough guess to keep you happy.

Do you print hardcover as well as paperback books?

Yes, we handle both. Hardback suits gift editions and special projects, while paperback suits most standard fiction and non-fiction print runs.

Can I see a physical sample before placing a large order?

Yes, we would always recommend approving a proof, and where possible seeing a printed sample, before committing to a full print run of your book.
